Lazaro Bruzon leading the Zonal 2.3

Gran Hotel Costa Rica, in downtown San Jose, Costa Rica, is hosting the Zonal 2.3 Chess Championships, which is a qualifying event for the World Chess Cup 2009. The event takes place on 18-26th June and 14 players from five countries in the region will compete. Fernando Osorio from Venezuela was forced to withdraw application because his flights were canceled. Top seeded are Cuban Grandmasters Lazaro Bruzon and Neuris Delgado, who were also active in performing lectures and simultaneous exhibitions in San Jose.

The Zone 2.3 comprises of 22 nations, including all the Caribbean and Central America, plus Mexico, Venezuela, Suriname, Ecuador and Colombia.
